1. Fireworks-related Incidents:
Fireworks and the 4th of July go together like… well fireworks and the 4th of July; you just can’t have one without the other, but they also pose risks. Every year we hear about property damage or someone getting hurt from a firework. You can always attend a public fireworks displays so you don’t have to worry about some of those risks but we get it, you want to get the full experience and blow up your own, so be extra careful and check your insurance policy to ensure coverage for any damages caused by fireworks. Being in Montana, we especially need to consider the fire hazard that they can potentially cause. Check the local regulations and fire danger before lighting them off.
2. Grilling Accidents:
Hot dogs, burgers, chicken, OH MY. Grilling is another staple of the Independence Day festivities, but like fireworks incidents, we hear about grilling accidents every year. Make sure you have a certified dad managing the grill so your barbecue doesn’t go up in flames which not only delays your eating but could cause property damage or injury as well. With kids running around playing games with their friends and family, make sure they don’t get too close to the cooking area which could lead to burns or other injuries.
3. Water-related Incidents:
Pools, lakes, and beaches are popular destinations on the 4th of July, but they come with inherent risks. Drowning accidents, slips, and injuries can occur. Ensure proper supervision of children around water, follow safety protocols, and have proper fencing and safety equipment in place.
4. Auto Accidents:
The entire weekend has increased traffic and road congestion due to parades, events, and travel. With increased traffic, the risk of auto accidents rises during this time. Practice extra safe driving habits, avoid distractions, and NEVER drink and drive. Review your auto insurance policy to ensure adequate coverage for potential accidents and consider adding uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage for extra protection.
Conclusion:
All these could lead to an insurance claim and if anything does happen, we’re here to help you through that. As you celebrate the 4th of July; celebrate responsibly, protect yourself, and have a safe and joyful Independence Day!
